My background is in microbial decontamination and novel biofilm intervention strategies in a biomedical setting. My current project, funded by the NIHR Respiratory Biomedical Research Unit, involves the investigating the role and application of nitric oxide as a novel adjunctive therapy in chronic infections such as cystic fibrosis.

Research interests

My?interests include

  • microbial decontamination & novel anti-biofilm intervention methods
  • the role and application of nitric oxide (NO) in the dispersal of bacterial biofilms in cystic fibrosis and other biofilm related diseases
  • the development of novel, targeted NO donor molecules as therapeutic interventions (a collaboration with University of Wollongong and UNSW)
  • investigating the methods by which different bacterial species interact in the CF lung
  • the role of biofilms in ventilator assisted pneumonia (VAP)

Combating Pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilm tolerance and antibiotic resistance in cystic fibrosis

This project will exploit novel nitric oxide based therapies to improve the effectiveness of antibiotics against Pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilms.
