Staff and students will be marking this year’s Fairtrade Fortnight (23 February to 8 March) with a number of events and promotions.

Fairtrade Fortnight is the Fairtrade Foundation’s annual campaign call to people in the UK to promote awareness of Fairtrade and buy products carrying the Fairtrade Mark. Fairtrade is all about ensuring farmer’s receive a fair price for the food they grow.

• Lattes Cafe Bars will be offering a free Fairtrade wafer biscuit with all hot drinks (which are all Fairtrade) during the two weeks. Also, Fairtrade chocolate brownie cake will be available at ?1.75.

• Food on the Go areas will offer a sandwich meal deal – one price for a sandwich with a piece of Fairtrade fruit and a Geobar, for an all inclusive price of ?2.70.

• The main food outlets will be offering a free carton of Fairtrade juice with all Mega breakfast deals, starting at ?2.30.

• Divine bars at a reduced price of 60p when purchased with any Fairtrade hot drink

• A Fairtrade loyalty card will be offered to customers on every purchase of selected Fairtrade products in any of catering outlet. Customers will receive a stamp on the card – collect six stamps to be entered into a draw to win a Hamper full of Fairtrade goodies.

The Students’ Union will also have a number of activities during Fairtrade Fortnight. There will be an Environment and Ethics stall promoting Fairtrade produce and organisations on 5 March, a Fairtrade quiz on 1 March and a Farmers’ market in the Students’ Union on 5 March. The Union’s Environment and Ethics website will feature an online map showing students where they can buy Fairtrade produce.
