Women’s Day – 19 June

Women’s Day aims to encourage recognition of the role women play at the University, celebration of our successes and discussion about how our talents can be developed fully.

This year’s Women’s Day, led by Pro Vice-Chancellor Debra Humphris, marks a step change in the University’s approach to recognising women, with opportunities for women of all grades to participate in the event.

Women’s Day also presents an opportunity to look ahead to the future and identify how we can make our University an increasingly inclusive environment. Women’s Day Sponsor, Pro Vice-Chancellor Debra Humphris says: “I hope this event will develop over the years to become a valued time that women from across the University take to come together to discuss common issues and identify practical actions that can improve women’s experiences of work.”

There are still some opportunities to be involved in the programme of events on Women’s Day:

WiSET Workshop, 11am

The University’s Women in Science, Engineering and Technology group (WiSET) will facilitate this interactive one-hour session which will culminate in a discussion about the progression of women within the University. To book your place, contact Gwyneth Skiller: g.skiller@soton.ac.uk, extn 22871.

Women’s Forum Workshop, 1pm – 4pm

The Women’s Forum Workshop has been designed to help women to recognise their talents and have their talents recognised by others. The session has reached its booking target but a number of additional places have been made available due to popularity. If you would like to enquire further, please contact Katie Eason ke@soton.ac.uk, extn 24739.

Annual Senior Women’s Dinner, 7pm

Chaired by Pro Vice-Chancellor Debra Humphris, champion of this year’s Women’s Day, this annual event will enable guests to network in an informal setting, exchange ideas and hear the inspiring experiences of colleagues and guest speakers. This event is now fully booked.
