The University offers its enthusiastic support to candidates for next year’s National Teaching Fellowships.
The Higher Education Academy National Teaching Fellowship Scheme recognises excellent teaching and learning. Up to 55 teachers from England? Wales and Northern Ireland will be chosen in 2012 – and we want our staff to be among them. This is the most prestigious teaching and learning award in the HE sector, leading to national recognition and life-time membership of the Association of National Teaching Fellows.
Fellows receive ?10,000 for their professional development in teaching and learning or aspects of pedagogy.
In recent years we have won three Fellowships – and the successful candidates, Dr Faith Hill, Simon Kemp and Dr Mike Wald will provide support for next year’s applicants. They will helped by Dr Shelley Parr, a recent NTFS assessor, and Bob Eggington, a professional editor.
All candidates must have the support of their institution and each institution is allowed to submit up to three applicants. A panel chaired by Pro Vice Chancellor Professor Debra Humphris will make the selection – the process is outlined below.
PROVISIONAL APPLICATION: Potential candidates should submit a provisional application (up to 4 sides of A4) to K.E.Coombes@soton.ac.uk by 26th November. Applications should provide three examples of excellence for each of the HEA criteria:
? Individual excellence – outlining your role and approach to facilitating and supporting student learning
? Raising the profile of excellence – your wider achievements, networks and external engagement
? Developing excellence – summarises and substantiates your commitment to and ongoing involvement with teaching & learning and the relevant institutions
Applicants should also attach a short supporting paragraph from their Associate Dean or equivalent senior member of staff.
