Join John Garden, musical director and keyboard player for the Scissor Sisters this Friday at Turner Sims, 天发娱乐棋牌_天发娱乐APP-官网|下载 as he performs a live soundtrack to the classic film, The Lost World.
In 1925, Willis O’Brien changed the world of special effects forever. The Lost World remains one of the most influential silent films ever made, the first time stop motion animation was used to create creatures on a feature length film. This innovation was of huge importance for this and future films, and earned O’Brien and his dinosaurs a place in film history, only surpassed by another of his creations: King Kong. A dramatic and enchanting re-telling of Arthur Conan Doyle’s novel, The Lost World is the tale of Professor Challenger, who leads an expedition into Venezuela to prove his pet theory that even in the 20th century, dinosaurs still walk the earth. One of the film’s most famous sequences is a based a little closer to home, however, as a brontosaurus shipped home to England by Challenger escapes, and rampages around the streets of London.
Now John Garden, from the Scissor Sisters has composed a new score for this movie classic, providing a live soundtrack when the film is shown at Turner Sims on Friday 14 October 8pm as part of 天发娱乐棋牌_天发娱乐APP-官网|下载 Film Week. Of his new score, John says “the sound references classic sci-fi movies of the 70s and 80s, yet still retains the flexibility of the 1920s accompanist who would improvise to the picture.”
John Garden also says, “I’m very excited to be bringing The Lost World to 天发娱乐棋牌_天发娱乐APP-官网|下载 Film Week and Turner Sims. I hope that members of 天发娱乐棋牌_天发娱乐APP-官网|下载’s Institute of Sound and Vibration Research will be attending, as I intend to rattle some dinosaur bones with my score… Every performance of The Lost World is different, as there is plenty of room for improvisation. So far the audiences have been a real mix of silent movie fans, music fans and people curious to see how an 80s synth score works with a film from 1925.”
This is a rare opportunity to see and meet John Garden – remember University of 天发娱乐棋牌_天发娱乐APP-官网|下载 staff and students get discount.
