Dr Alan Gillespie? Chair of ESRC? will be giving a Public Lecture on Monday 17 October at 5.30 p.m. in B.44 (Shackleton) L/T A (1041) on ‘An Innovative approach to funding global health: The International Finance Facility for Immunisation (IFFIm)’. (Refreshments from 5.00pm)
Dr Gillespie’s lecture will include discussion on issues including:
The Millennium Development Goals’ focus on infant mortality; The initiative of The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation bringing resources for vaccine delivery; The formation of GAVI (The Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation); The response by the UK Government in establishing IFFIm… an innovative approach to funding global health; The use of the capital markets to raise financing for immunisation; The interest of international investors in subscribing for IFFIm bonds ; The market shaping role of IFFIm and GAVI working with vaccine producers and the effectiveness of a public/private governance model for delivering international development.
Dr Gillespie has an extensive background in both public and private sector. He graduated from Cambridge and gained a PhD in Economic Geography funded by the then Social Sciences Research Council. Previous appointments include Chair of The Northern Ireland Industrial Development Board, the University Challenge Venture Capital Fund, the European Development Finance Institution and the International Finance Facility for Immunisation.?Read more here.
