The Nuffield Theatre is again opening its doors to anyone interested in becoming a playwright.
The theatre’s writers’ group meets every two weeks? for two hours on a Thursday evening??over a two–year period. During this time? members investigate the essentials of playwriting, from dialogue to structure.
Over the two years, they will produce a 10-minute play, a 40-minute radio play and a full length piece for the theatre.
Applicants will be selected on the basis of an interview and two samples of their work.
The group is free of charge and is run by the theatre’s Script Executive, John Burgess, a freelance director well known for his work with new playwrights.
Former members of the writers group have had plays performed at venues including the National Theatre, the Soho Theatre, Birmingham Rep, The Nuffield itself and on BBC Radio 3 and 4.
Nuffield writer’s group graduate Kate Betts won the 2006 Channel 4 playwriting competition The Play’s the Thing with her play On the Third Day, which was staged in a major West End production and the New Ambassadors theatre.
Interviews will be held from January and a new group will begin after Easter 2012. Anyone interested should contact Alison Thurley at alison.thurley@nuffieldtheatre.co.uk or on 023 8031 5500 ex 205.
