Celebrating Black History Month

The Students’ Union has been promoting Black History Month throughout October, with the last few events set to round off the month with a bang.

Black Hist Month

Black History Month?seeks to recognise and celebrate the important contributions that people of African, Arab, Asian and Caribbean heritage make to humanity – raising awareness of different cultures and communities.

The events and activities are open to everyone and many are free to attend.

Look out for the special edition of?Wessex Scene?magazine?on Campus this week, which has been written in collaboration with the African and Caribbean Society.? A free?screening of the film?’42’?has also?been organised in conjunction with Union Films,?on Sunday 25 October at 14:15.

The African and Caribbean Society?will be?hosting a Black History Month Celebration on Tuesday 27 October?at Turner Sims?showcasing cultural poetry and music, headlined by the internationally renowned band, The Compozers. Tickets for the event can be purchased here.??

The month of celebrations will finish on Wednesday 28 October, with a Caribbean Cultural Night held in The Bridge.?A steel band will be on hand to provide musical entertainment, alongside themed cocktails and free Caribbean-inspired nibbles for the first to arrive.
