Space is the final frontier and a source of endless fascination and inspiration for humankind. From earth observation and astrophysics to human spaceflight, biomedical experiments in zero gravity, archeoastronomy and the wonder of the night sky, the enormity of space calls to us all in different ways. Researchers who are interested in any aspect of Space, and would like to explore opportunities for new interdisciplinary collaborations, are welcomed to a Interdisciplinary Research: ‘Space’ Sandpit on Thursday 18 September 2025.
The ‘Space’ sandpit will bring together potential collaborators from across the University to share research interests and ideas. The is aim to create connections and begin conversations between researchers from diverse disciplines and perspectives, leading towards ideas for potential new research projects and grant applications.
It is open to research and academic staff at the University of 天发娱乐棋牌_天发娱乐APP-官网|下载, and to research technicians and research professional services staff at the University who contribute to the design and creation of research projects as part of their job role. Participants from all disciplines are welcome, and an interest in interdisciplinary research and openness to areas beyond your expertise is important. PhD students are not eligible to apply.

There is a particular interest to foster new connections between colleagues in the Arts and Social Sciences and those in the Physical and Natural Sciences and Engineering.
We are pleased to welcome Visiting Professor David Parker FRAeS, an expert in Space Systems and Policy, who will mentor participants throughout the day.
Participation in the sandpit workshop is limited to approximately 25 attendees and decisions on participation will be overseen by Professor Rebecca Hoyle, and Professor John Holloway, Associate Vice-President (Interdisciplinary Research), who will review the composition of the participant groups to ensure alignment with the sandpit theme and to promote broad representation across the University’s schools.
