As part of our continued investment in a resilient and future-ready campus, the Estates and Facilities (E&F) department is progressing with key improvements outlined in our Infrastructure Master Plan. A major component of this work involves replacing the existing Combined Heat and Power (CHP) system, a crucial element of our energy infrastructure.
This essential upgrade will take place in Building 11 and involves the use of a large crane to lift the new equipment into position. To carry out this work safely, a number of access routes on Highfield Campus will be temporarily closed.
When is this happening?
The installation is scheduled from the evening of Thursday 17 July to the evening of Monday 21 July. Should weather conditions delay the work, it may be extended to Saturday 26 July.
What areas will be affected?
To ensure the safety of staff, students, and visitors, the following closures will be in effect for the duration of the works:
The service road between Buildings B20, B85, B8 and B17 will be closed to all traffic and pedestrians.
The footbridge from South Broadlands Car Park will also be closed.
Alternative pedestrian routes
If you usually park in South Broadlands Car Park or Hampton Car Park, you will need to access campus by walking around the North East Quadrant site via Broadlands Road, Burgess Road, and University Road.
Signage will be clearly displayed to guide pedestrians along the temporary route.
We apologise for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding as we carry out this critical infrastructure improvement. Delivery teams operating in the affected area have already been consulted. If you have any further questions, please contact: estatedevelopment@soton.ac.uk.
Thank you for your cooperation.
