Reminder: SUSSED is moving to an improved platform

You may have seen on SUSSED that as part of our ongoing review of our communications platforms, we will be retiring the use of the current blog platform for SUSSED news and moving our internal SUSSED updates into SharePoint during early September.

We are aware of issues with subscriber emails not being received from the current platform, and as part of the transition have developed a new subscription function. We have also introduced a new function to receive these update emails to your Teams instead – please select the preferred option when subscribing. If you have already subscribed this will be visible on the page for you and no further action is required.

Subscribing instructions

You can sign up to the new subscription at https://sotonac.sharepoint.com/teams/News/SitePages/news-subscription.aspx. We will be continuing to review and develop this subscription function and further improvements will launch later this year.

Please note, once the transition is complete the existing subscription to the current platform will be retired and you will need to sign up to the link above to continue receiving news directly into your inbox or Teams.

Why are we doing this?

  • To improve cyber security and remove external access to internal news, as SharePoint requires authentication to view the content.
  • To provide a more streamlined experience for our audience as colleagues will need to look at fewer websites when looking for internal news.
  • To address the issues and delays with subscriber emails that some staff have experienced recently.
  • To provide a more contemporary and flexible look and feel.

How will this affect me?

When complete:

  • Colleagues will need to be logged into our systems (Microsoft 365) to access internal news; for colleagues who have subscribed using a personal (home) email address, you will no longer be able to access the system from an external account.
  • /blog/sussed-news will be retired, with a redirect to the internal site.
  • Colleagues who are subscribed using their @soton addresses have received an email inviting them to re-subscribe. You will also find the information on how to subscribe to the new platform across our other channels, including SUSSED and the Staff Digest.
