Property and Estates

The University has extensive property holdings. Its relationship with outside bodies or individuals, who are going to occupy space on campus, needs to be regulated. In addition, as the University’s needs change from time to time it may be necessary to take on or dispose of space elsewhere.

These land transactions require liaison with various Faculties, Schools and Departments across the University, but particularly Estates and Facilities.

天发娱乐棋牌_天发娱乐APP-官网|下载 involvement depends upon the nature of the transaction but can involve:

  • General advice on land transactions
  • Investigating the title to the land
  • Raising enquires relating to the land, its past use and also financial issues such as the charges for services that would be required from a Landlord where the??? University will be a tenant
  • Dealing with enquires raised by solicitors acting on behalf of any tenant body
  • Dealing with the documentation and procedure on sales and purchases of land
  • Drafting/review and negotiation of Lease terms
  • Drafting/review and negotiation of Licences (usually short-term occupation arrangements where the greater security of a lease is not required)
  • The drafting etc., referred to above may involve considering the effect of other, contractual documents to make sure they ‘work’ together
  • Advising a client department’s possible options at points during a transaction

Early involvement in a project can mean that potential problems can be identified and possible solutions found. It is our aim to protect the University’s interest and manage potential risks to it, particularly in view of the increasingly common occurrence of litigation.

We are happy to provide awareness seminars for individual schools or services tailored to meet your needs.
