Several clinical and lab-based research projects aim to?expand?our understanding of the interplay between blood and brain in neurological disease. Focus research areas include the blood-brain barrier, neurotoxicity of blood-derived products and the effects of systemic inflammation on the brain. A key aim of SCENT is the?rapid translation of concepts from discovery science to clinical practice. In parallel, we train the next generation of translational researchers.
Key neurological areas are multiple sclerosis, subarachnoid haemorrhage and head injury. SCENT works closely with regional multiple sclerosis and neurosurgical teams covering a catchment area of?four million in the South of England, incorporating Hampshire, Isle of Wight and surrounding regions.
