About us
MINDS-IC brings together experts, scientists and people with lived experience to investigate the underlying mechanisms, diagnosis, and treatment of disorders characterised by impulsivity and compulsivity. These include conditions such as:
- gambling disorder, and other behavioural addictions
- obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
- body-focused repetitive behaviour disorders, such as hair-pulling disorder, skin-picking disorder
- impulse control disorders, such as kleptomania, pyromania, and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
We want to better understand the neurobiological, psychological, and behavioural dimensions of these conditions. We aim to translate this knowledge into improved clinical care. We employ a range of methods including neuroimaging, experimental psychology, computational modelling, and clinical trials.
Real-world applications of our work include the development of targeted interventions, early detection methods, digital assessment and monitoring tools, and personalised treatment approaches that can be integrated into NHS and international healthcare systems.
The work we do has many clinical applications and offers high-quality assessment and evidence-based treatments for people with gambling-related harms, gambling disorders and impulsive-compulsive disorders.
